Electricity: Potato Power

We will explore the nature of electricity and learn about electrical circuits, power sources, and electrical consumers.

About this workshop

We will explore the nature of electricity and learn about electrical circuits, power sources, and electrical consumers. How can we generate electricity? We will discuss the potato (or lemon) battery experiment and see how electrical effects can be produced through a chemical reaction. We will also explore electric current and voltage.

What you will build

Through a hands-on demonstration, we will create a simple electrical circuit using a chemical reaction. We will build simple circuits using a construction kit and create a short circuit. Finally, we will play the game “Short Circuit”, exploring how energy sources and electrical consumers work together in an electrical system.

No previous STEM or science experience is required; curiosity and a willingness to build, experiment, and ask questions are all you need.
